How to Install a Men’s Hairpiece

Installing a men’s hairpiece involves a precise process to ensure a secure, natural-looking fit. Whether you’re using a toupee for a temporary change or a long-term solution to hair loss, proper preparation and application are key to achieving the best results.

Step1:Prepare the suitable men’s hairpiece

When you’re ready to install your men’s hairpiece, start by gently washing the hair to ensure it’s clean and manageable. Next, measure your balding area. Most stock hairpieces come in a standard size of 8 inches in width and 10 inches in length, which is large enough for the majority of men. To determine where your hairline should start, raise your eyebrows and measure four fingers above them. The spot just above your topmost finger marks the starting point of your hairline. You can make a mark. For more detailed guidance, you can consult a tutorial on measuring for a men’s toupee. Once your measurements are complete, trim the base of the hairpiece to match your size. You can also cut off extra material, such as extra lace or skin, towards the front of the hairline.

Step 2: Clean the scalp

Shave the hair in the area where the hair system will be attached, ensuring a smooth surface. Clean your scalp thoroughly using shampoo to remove any oils or residue. For extra protection and improved bonding, you may choose to apply a scalp protector.

Step 3: Apply the adhesive-glue or tape

Apply a thin, even layer of adhesive to the scalp and/or the hair system base.

Follow the adhesive’s curing instructions (usually 5–7 minutes until tacky).

For a secure bond, apply a second layer if recommended.

It is essential to understand which adhesive works best with your specific base, as this plays a significant role in maintaining the health of your hair system and prolonging its lifespan. Whether you opt for glue or tape depends on the material of your base and your personal preferences.

Step 4:Install men’s hairpiece

Carefully align the front edge of the men’s hairpiece with the marked hairline.

Slowly press the men’s hairpiece onto the scalp, working from front to back.

Step 5: Adjusting and Styling

If you missed trimming the excess material earlier, you can take this opportunity to carefully remove it during this step. Once adjusted, gently comb through the hair to create a natural and seamless appearance.
