Men’s hairpiece is a critical part of what helps people restore their confidence. However, after purchasing a hair system, you may come to realize that a different hair color could better complement your personal style or enhance your appearance. In such cases, dyeing your hairpiece might be the ideal solution. This blog will guide you through the process.
Tools Needed:
- Styrofoam head
- Wide-tooth comb
- Rubber gloves
- Aluminum foil
- Plastic container
- Hair dye
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Clean towel
Step 1: Preparation
Begin by ensuring that the room is well-lit to accurately judge the color.
Clean the Hair System: Start by gently washing the hair system with a mild shampoo to remove any dirt and residue.
Prepare the Styrofoam Head
- Wrap the Styrofoam head in aluminum foil: Mold the aluminum foil to match the shape of the Styrofoam head, wrapping it tightly.
- Place the hairpiece: Securely position the hairpiece on the aluminum-wrapped Styrofoam head.
Step 2: Assess the hair system
Evaluate the density and length of the hair to determine how much dye you’ll need
Step 3: Mix the Hair Dye
- Select the dye: Choose a dye that is two shades lighter than the color you ultimately want, as the human hair is apt to absorb color. Trying to lighten hair is difficult and not recommended, as the dye is designed to add color, not to lighten or remove the natural hair color.
- Prepare the dye: Put on rubber gloves and mix the dye according to the chosen color.
Step 4: Apply the Dye
- Section the hair: Divide the hair into sections to ensure the dye is applied evenly to each part.
- Apply the dye: Use the wide-tooth comb to apply the dye starting from the top of the hair and working your way down. Be careful not to apply dye to the base of the hair system.
Step 5: Allow the Hair to Absorb the Color
Wait for the dye to develop according to the instructions on the packaging—usually for around 30 minutes.
Step 6: Rinse the Toupee
- Rinse off the dye: Check if the desired color has been achieved. If yes, rinse the toupee under lukewarm water. If not, you may need to seek a professional hair stylist to dye your hair.
- Wash the toupee: Wash the toupee with shampoo to remove any remaining dye.
Step 7: Dry the Hair
Gently pat the hairpiece with a clean towel and then place it on a wig stand to air dry. To help maintain moisture, softness, and shine, it is recommended to use a leave-in conditioner.
Step 8: Final Styling
Once the hair system is dry, you can style it according to your personal preference.
Important Notes:
- Once the hair has been cut, dyed, or styled, all sales are considered final sales.
- We do not recommend dyeing synthetic hair, as it cannot absorb dye.
